Weinstrub in Nierstein - Weine aus Rheinhessen

Der rote Hang

The Red Slope dates from the Middle Tertiary when the upper Rhine trench collapsed and the Mainz Basin arose. This break between Schwabsburg and Nackenheim, which occurred approximately 280 million years ago, exposed a strip of Rotschiefer, an old red slate soil. That soil of the Red Slope is about as old as the Grand Canyon in the United States! Rotschiefer is very soft and weathers quickly into a clay type of consistency.

The mixture of this material with the local red slate stones, combined with the excellent microclimate of the area, gives our wines their own unique character. Taste yourself and enjoy what our family has known for generations.

Our wines

We classify our wines using three quality categories, Litre wines, Estate wines and Single Vineyard wines. The categories of our wines can be visualized with the quality pyramid.

Lagenweine - Single vineyard wines

The Single vineyard wines are the best wines of every year. They are labelled with the name of the single vineyard and are produced exclusively from grapes out of vineyards located at the Roten Hang.

Gutsweine - Estate wines

The Estate wines form the middle segment of our quality pyramid. These Wines convince with their  fruitiness and a perfect balance.

Literweine - Litre wines

The basis segment of our quality pyramid brings each year juicy and refreshing wines from typical regional grape varieties.
